Months forward of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expanded the state-run ‘Swasthya Sathi’ well being scheme to cowl all the inhabitants of the state.
The determination can be relevant from December 1, 2020, Banerjee introduced.
She drew parallel with the Centre’s ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme saying that it’s being run on 60:40 ratio, whereas ‘Swasthya Sathi’ is completely funded by the West Bengal authorities.
“Earlier, we had decided to enroll at least 7.5 crore people under ‘Swasthya Sathi’. I am announcing today that every family in West Bengal, every person, be it a child or an old man or woman, irrespective of their religious affinity will be covered under this scheme,” Ms Banerjee stated.
“The central government gives only 60 per cent for Ayushman Bharat. Who will pay the rest 40 per cent? If the common people need to pay Rs 2.5 lakh for a Rs 5 lakh scheme, then why will people opt for that. Our Swastha Sathi scheme is 100 per cent funded by the state government,” she stated.
The Trinamool Congress supremo stated she will certainly welcome Ayushman Bharat if the Centre desires to offer 100 per cent of the scheme.
“If they (the Centre) wants to fund Ayushman Bharat totally then let them do it. Why don’t they do it?” she added.
Every household can be supplied with one sensible card to avail the advantages of ‘Swasthya Sathi’ during which all state-run hospitals in addition to non-public hospitals within the state have been roped in, she added.
The scheme was formally launched by Mamata Banerjee in December 2016 and is a fundamental well being cowl for secondary and tertiary care as much as Rs 5 lakh every year per household.
“The health card will be issued to the woman gaurdians of the families and will be distributed from December 1, 2020.
The families will be enrolled in the scheme once the government representatives start visiting every household in the state under the ‘Duare Duare Poschimbongo Sarkar’ (West Bengal government at your doorstep) scheme,” she stated.
Anyone who will not be enrolled in another well being scheme can avail the advantages of this card which is able to assist individuals get cashless therapy at hospitals.
To state must bear an annual expense of Rs 2,000 crore for the well being scheme, she added.
