Five years after the proposed movie cultural centre at Bandra West failed to take off, the BMC plans to take back a children’s theatre, handed over for the project, from the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
Citing violation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the BMC and NFDC, the civic physique has mentioned that the lease needs to be canceled and the theatre be handed over to another organisation that may begin the cultural centre.
On Wednesday, a proposal of canceling the MoU with NFDC and taking back the theatre was tabled earlier than BMC’s enchancment committee for ultimate approval. After a quick dialogue, the committee determined to go to the theatre earlier than taking any resolution.
The BMC has listed six breaches of MoU circumstances. They embody NFDC’s failure to begin the movie cultural centre after renovating the present youngsters theatre, lack of income due to its non-functioning and NFDC not together with the BMC consultant within the advisory committee arrange for the project.
According to the BMC, the cultural centre was proposed to have an exhibition corridor, a digital cinema corridor, a studying and analysis library and a ebook store.
After NFDC failed to begin the centre, in 2018, BJP chief after which minister Ashish Shelar had requested the BMC to take back the theatre. Following this, the BMC had initiated the method of canceling the MoU with NFDC.
