The CBI has taken over investigations into the ugly killing of a father-son duo after alleged torture by police personnel at Sathankulam Police Station in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu, officers mentioned on Wednesday.
The CBI has dispatched a particular group to conduct the probe during which a number of Tamil Nadu Police personnel are underneath the scanner and a few have already been arrested by the state police, they mentioned.
“CBI has registered two cases on the allegations of custodial death of two traders in Kovilpatti district on the request of Tamil Nadu government and further notification from the government of India,” CBI Spokesperson RK Gaur mentioned.
He mentioned the CBI has taken over the investigation of those circumstances, earlier registered as crime quantity 649 of 2020 and crime quantity 650 of 2020 at Police Station Kovilpatti East in Turicorin.
The group can be in search of custody of the arrested accused, the sources mentioned.
P Jayaraj and his son Beniks who ran a cellular store have been arrested for ”violating” lockdown norms over enterprise hours of their cellphone store.
Beniks and Jeyaraj died on June 22 and 23, respectively after alleged torture by Sathankulam Police following their arrest on June 19.
The CB-CID is presently dealing with the case as per the course of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.
Five police personnel together with an inspector have been arrested to this point.
