The monsoon session of West Bengal meeting will probably be held for less than a day on September 9 because of the ongoing pandemic, Speaker Biman Banerjee mentioned on Tuesday.
It had been earlier determined that the House will meet for a two-day session from Septembaer 9. But the choice was modified in the course of the all-party assembly on Tuesday and the home will now have a single day session, TMC sources mentioned.
“We don’t want people to stay in the assembly for a long time. So it has been decided that the house will be adjourned after obituary reference and placing of few reports,” Ms Banerjee mentioned.
Leader of the Opposition, Abdul Mannan criticised the TMC authorities for not accepting proposals for bringing in decision in opposition to the “anti-people” insurance policies of the Centre.
“We wanted to bring in a resolution against the National Education Policy and rise in the prices of essentials. But our proposal was turned down by the TMC. This only proves that TMC and BJP have a tacit understanding,” he alleged.
There have been situations when resolutions have been handed with none discussions. But the state authorities was adamant on not bringing any decision, Mr Mannan mentioned.
TMC denied the cost and mentioned the decision was not allowed because the session will probably be held for only a day.
Several MLAs, home workers and journalists Tuesday underwent COVID-19 take a look at within the meeting premises as a part of security norms forward of the monsoon session, officers mentioned.
The state authorities had despatched a proposal to the speaker in August for convening a session both from the primary or the second week of September, in accordance with sources.
“As per the norms there cannot be a gap of more than six months between two sessions of the assembly. The last session was adjourned in March this year. So by September you have to hold the next session,” a senior chief of the Trinamool Congress mentioned.
The 294-member state meeting was adjourned sine die on March 17 because the state price range session was curtailed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
