The Income Tax Department has filed a complaint of cheating against a Surat BJP leader, saying he faked circulation numbers for his two dailies to earn commercial income of round Rs 2.70 crore from authorities businesses and advert companies.
The Investigation Wing of the I-T Department had lately carried out searches on the house and enterprise premises of Surat metropolis BJP vice-president P V S Sarma, who’s himself a former I-T officer.
Several “incriminating documents” have been discovered within the searches, which allegedly revealed proof of fraud by Sarma and his aides utilizing cast paperwork of faux companies, displaying giant circulations for the English and Gujarati newspapers, which have been used to get the advertisements.
Pamaiya Ok D, deputy director of the Investigation Wing of the Surat I-T Department, filed the complaint against Sarma, his enterprise associate Sitaram Adukiya, and others with the police on Saturday night time. A case has been lodged.
In the complaint, Pamaiya alleged that on inspecting the paperwork seized from the premises of Sarma and Adukiya, it was discovered that the accused ran the Satyam Times each day in Gujarati and English. Between 2008-09 and October 21, 2010, they bought uncooked supplies used for printing from Mahesh Trading Company and some different companies for Rs 3.98 crore. But it was discovered that Mahesh Trading Company didn’t exist, and the premises have been owned by Adukiya.
On the printing report register, Sarma and Adukiya had allegedly proven the gross sales circulation of the Gujarati newspaper at 23,500 copies, and that of the English newspaper at 6,000 copies. They had allegedly fabricated the figures of gross sales, and made faux papers of gross sales of uncooked supplies from non-existent companies, displaying it as real companies on the corporate ledger account books.
On checking the circulations, the officers had discovered that solely 600 copies of the Gujarati newspaper and 290 of the English newspaper had been printed. Through the faux paperwork, the agency had allegedly availed of DAVP advertisements from the Centre to the tune of Rs 70 lakh and from different advertisements companies of Rs 2 crore.
Police stated they’re investigating the case.
