Iran denies Taliban were paid bounties to target US troops

Iran on Tuesday denied reviews it paid Taliban fighters to target US forces and allies in Afghanistan.

In a press release carried by Iranian media, Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh referred to as the claims “entirely false” and mentioned the US tries to disguise its “miscalculations” in Afghanistan by resorting to propaganda.

On Monday, media reviews mentioned US intelligence companies assessed that Iran provided bounties to Taliban fighters for focusing on American and coalition troops in Afghanistan.

Iran sees the US forces’ presence in neighbouring Afghanistan and Iraq as a risk on its doorstep and routinely calls for his or her departure.
