“I pray for the nicely being and speedy restoration of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. I’m assured he can be profitable in recovering from the virus shortly. Wishing him energy and good well being,” Union Minister Piyush Goyal wrote yesterday.
Mr Mukherjee has been bestowed with numerous awards, including India’s highest civilian award – the Bharat Ratna – in 2019. He also won the Best Parliamentarian Award in 1997 and the Best Administrator in India Award in 2011.
Earlier this month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had tested positive for COVID-19. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Congress leader Siddaramaiah are among other top leaders that have tested positive.
Across India, over 22 lakh people have been affected by the pandemic so far; more than 45,000 have died.
