The information group reported that it had sought data on her whereabouts from the Chinese authorities and the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C., this week.
On Thursday, the corporate “received confirmation that Fan is being held on suspicion of participating in activities endangering national security.”
“We are very concerned for her, and have been actively speaking to Chinese authorities to better understand the situation,” the corporate mentioned in a press release to CNN Business on Friday. “We are continuing to do everything we can to support her while we seek more information.”
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned in a press release on Friday that Fan was detained “on suspicion of engaging in criminal activities that jeopardize national security,” including that the case is beneath investigation and her “legitimate rights have been fully ensured.”
The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China mentioned it was “very concerned” to find out about Fan’s detention.
“Chinese nationals offer critical research and linguistic support for foreign reporting in China. Without their support, it would be difficult for foreign media to operate in China,” the membership mentioned in a press release.
Chinese nationals are solely permitted to work for international information shops in “auxiliary” roles and have to be employed via a Foreign Ministry-affiliated company.
