Hackers broke into methods utilized by prime US Treasury officers throughout a large cyberattack on authorities companies and will have stolen important encryption keys, a senior lawmaker stated Monday.
Senator Ron Wyden, who sits on each the Senate Intelligence and Finance Committees, stated after a closed-door briefing that the hack on the US Treasury Department “appears to be significant.”
Dozens of electronic mail accounts have been compromised, he stated in an announcement.
“Additionally the hackers broke into systems in the Departmental Offices division of Treasury, home to the department’s highest-ranking officials,” stated Wyden.
“Treasury still does not know all of the actions taken by hackers, or precisely what information was stolen.”
