Demonetised foreign money notes with the face worth of Rs 4.76 crore have been recovered in Gujarat’s Godhra city and two individuals have been held on this connection, police stated right now.
The two males have been arrested following a raid carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Godhra police on Tuesday night time, an announcement issued by the state Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) stated. The ATS had given a tip-off about it.
During the raid, the police caught Zuber Hayat and Farookh Chhota. However, key accused, Idrish Hayat, managed to flee through the operation, it stated.
Based on a selected tip-off that some individuals have been concerned in unlawful transactions of scrapped notes, the Godhra SOG first raided a spot close to Med Circle and recovered 5 bundles of such notes of Rs 1,000 denomination from Chhota, it stated.
After his interrogation, the SOG group reached Dhantya Plot space of Godhra and located a number of bundles of previous foreign money notes hidden in a automotive and a home owned by Idrish Hayat and his son Zuber.
While Idrish managed to esccape, his son was caught by the police, the ATS stated.
Police have collectively recovered 9,312 notes of Rs 1,000 and 76,739 notes of Rs 500 denomination, with the overall face worth of Rs 4,76,81,500.
“Idrish Hayat is already facing similar charges and he is missing since the last two years in a previous case. The Godhra SOG will conduct further probe about what the accused planned to do with these notes, which were scrapped by the government in 2016,” Panchmahal Superintendent of Police, Leena Patil, stated.
