The Railways stated on Monday it won’t dismantle any encroachment with out a correct resolution taken collectively with the Urban Development Ministry and the Delhi authorities, after a political storm brewed over a Supreme Court order for elimination of round 48,000 slum dwellings on rail land within the metropolis.

“Further, the Railway won’t dismantle any encroachment with out correct resolution together with MoUD and state authorities. The similar stand has been taken by the Ministry of Railways in listening to of Ajay Maken’s petition within the Supreme Court listed in the present day (Monday),” the northern railways said in a statement.
The Railways also said that it has started a large-scale drive and removed 5-6 per cent garbage lying along the tracks till date.
“Garbage cleansing can be accomplished inside three months as given within the order by the Supreme Court,” it stated.
On Friday, Senior Congress chief and former minister Ajay Maken had moved the Supreme Court in search of rehabilitation of slum dwellers. The plea sought course to the Ministry of Railways, Delhi Government and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to rehabilitate the slum dwellers previous to eviction and demolition of their dwellings.
