After protests from locals to avoid wasting their temples from being included within the proposed IIT campus in North Goa, the state authorities has determined to exempt 45,000 sq. metres of land parcel from the venture to separate the non secular constructions from the institute.
The choice was taken by the Goa cupboard on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated.
The Goa authorities has proposed to arrange a brand new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Guleli village in Sattari taluka unfold over 10 lakh sq. metres of land.
However, native residents have been objecting to the venture, claiming it might adversely have an effect on the biodiversity of the realm.
Also, there have been protests on Sunday to avoid wasting two temples that are positioned inside the space allotted for the IIT venture by the state authorities.
In the cupboard assembly, Mr Sawant introduced that 45,000 sq. metres of land proposed to be acquired as a part of the venture can be exempted from acquisition to depart the present non secular constructions intact.
“People have pointed out that there are temples in this area. That is why we have decided to exempt that much part of the land. We will be acquiring same area of land from somewhere else, he said.
Local MLA and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said by taking this decision, the BJP government has respected the sentiments of local residents.
All (other) apprehensions of the locals were placed before the chief minister who will take the final call on them,” Mr Rane stated, including the IIT venture will herald improvement within the space.
