Renowned Malayalam poet Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri was conferred the Jnanpith award, the nation’s highest literary award, on Thursday at a particular perform held at his home at Kumaranallur, close to Palakkad.
State cultural minister AK Balan handed over the award to the poet.

Akkitham is the sixth author to bag the Jnanpith Award for Malayalam literature.

Akkitham is the one dwelling poet being referred to as Mahakavi (nice poet) in Malayalam.
