A debut novel about love between mom and daughter by Avni Doshi, and Hilary Mantel’s third work in the Cromwell trilogy, are amongst 13 books on the longlist for the 2020 Booker Prize for Fiction, organisers introduced on Tuesday.
Selected from 162 novels printed in the UK or Ireland between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2020, the prize is open to writers of any nationality, writing in English and printed in the UK or Ireland.
The shortlist of six books might be introduced on September 15 and the winner revealed in November. The winner will obtain £50,000, whereas the shortlisted authors every obtain £2,500 and a specifically certain version of their ebook.

US-born and UK-educated Doshi’s novel ‘Burnt Sugar’ has acquired rave opinions, whereas Mantel’s ‘The Mirror & The Light’ will bid for an additional Booker prize. Mantel beforehand received the prize twice for the primary two novels in the trilogy.
Margaret Busby, chair of the 2020 judges, mentioned: “Each of these books carries an impact that has earned it a place on the longlist, deserving of wide readership… Some of the books focus on interpersonal relationships that are complex, nuanced, emotionally charged”.
“As judges we connected with these writers’ well-crafted prose, the mastery of detail, the arresting sentence, the credibility of the narrative arc, the ability to use to the full, the resources of storytelling. Unplanned, our final selection encompasses both seasoned favourites and debut talents ― a truly satisfying outcome.”
The panel of 5 judges included Lee Child, writer; Sameer Rahim, writer and critic; Lemn Sissay, author and broadcaster; and Emily Wilson, classicist and translator.
The 2019 Booker Prize for Fiction was received collectively by Margaret Atwood for ‘The Testaments’ and Bernardine Evaristo for ‘Girl, Woman, Other’.
