Paper-thin roof, water-saving ‘sponge airport’ design
The design helps cut back strolling distances between the principle check-in corridor and the farthest gates in the 470,000-square-meter terminal to not more than 550 meters.

Yet in contrast to Beijing Daxing Airport’s steel-and-glass roof, Qingdao’s new airport options an ultra-thin stainless-steel roof that is simply 0.5 millimeters — the thickness of a chunk of A4 paper.
