Three senior male wrestlers, together with world championship silver-medallist Deepak Punia, have examined optimistic for COVID-19, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) mentioned on Thursday. Besides the Olympic-bound Punia (86kg), the opposite two wrestlers who’ve examined optimistic for the virus are Navin (65kg) and Krishan (125kg). All three are a part of a nationwide camp on the SAI Centre in Sonepat forward of which the wrestlers are in quarantine. “Three senior males’s wrestlers, who had reported to the National Wrestling Camp at SAI Centre in Sonepat, have examined optimistic for COVID -19 virus,” the nodal sports activities physique mentioned in an announcement.
With his silver on the worlds, Punia had secured a spot for himself on the Tokyo Olympics. They have been moved to a SAI empanelled hospital as a precautionary measure for additional monitoring.
All wrestlers have been examined, upon arrival, as per the SAI SOP for resumption of sports activities actions. As per protocol, all wrestlers together with the coaches and assist workers underwent the obligatory RT-PCR check to detect COVID-19 on arrival.
When contacted, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) mentioned they weren’t conscious of the event. All the wrestlers assembled for the camp on September 1. Training will begin after they full a 14-day quarantine.
