Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has authorised the proposal to expand the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in 173 border and coastal districts from the place one lakh new cadets will likely be inducted, an official assertion mentioned on Sunday.
The growth of the NCC was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech on Saturday.

The defence ministry’s assertion mentioned Singh has authorised the NCC proposal “for a major expansion scheme”.
“More than 1,000 schools and colleges have been identified in border and coastal districts where NCC will be introduced,” it mentioned.
A complete of 1 lakh cadets from 173 border and coastal districts will likely be inducted into the NCC, it mentioned, including that one-third of them will likely be women.
“As part of the expansion plan, a total of 83 NCC units will be upgraded (Army 53, Navy 20, Air Force 10) to impart NCC training to the cadets in the border and coastal areas,” the ministry famous.
The Army will present coaching and administrative assist to NCC items situated in border areas, it mentioned.
The Navy will present assist to NCC items in coastal areas and the Air Force will present assist to these situated shut to its stations, it added.
The NCC is a youth growth motion managed by the armed forces. It additionally offers publicity to cadets in a variety of actions, with a definite emphasis on social companies, self-discipline and journey coaching.
It is open to all common college students of faculties and schools on a voluntary foundation.
