Facebook and its messaging service WhatsApp mentioned Monday they’re suspending requests from the Hong Kong authorities and regulation enforcement authorities for data on customers.
The pause will happen “pending further assessment” of a brand new nationwide safety regulation imposed on Hong Kong by China, and would come with “formal human rights due diligence and consultations with human rights experts”, WhatsApp mentioned in an announcement.
