Assam bade an emotional farewell to its beloved former chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday, as his closing rites have been carried out with full state honours on the Nabagraha Cremation floor in Guwahati.
Amid the chanting of hymns, preceded by a gun salute and band performed by the Assam Police, the state’s longest serving chief minister’s physique was consigned to flames by his son Gaurav Gogoi.
Mr Gaurav, a Lok Sabha MP, carrying the standard ”chelleng sador” (a scarf) and dhoti together with a face masks, lit the pyre after performing the rituals.
