In less than 60 seconds, I can show you how to look like a MOLLE expert. In this post, I’ll show you how to securely attach your MOLLE components to webbing on your utility pouch or military backpack. So grab your bug out bag and any of your MOLLE compatible pouches, and let’s walk through this together.
STEP #1: SELECT YOUR ATTACHMENT POINT
Mostly small and medium size components are designed to attach to 2 or 3 lines of webbing.
If you don’t have the perfect number of rows available, you can still attach your item – though it won’t be as secure and will put extra stress on the webbing rows you are using.
STEP #2: INSERT ATTACHMENT STRAPS THROUGH WEBBING
Now that you’ve selected where you’re going to attach your MOLLE component, it’s time to actually attach it. Pull the attachment straps all the way through so the pouch is secured to the top row of webbing.
Next, we are going to weave the attachment straps back onto the MOLLE webbing on the accessory pouch we are attaching. This will help secure the pouch in place.
STEP #3: BACK THROUGH COMPONENT for WEAVE ATTACHMENT STRAP
Instead of just feeding the attachment strap through the webbing rows, weave the attachment strap back through the webbing on your MOLLE accessory pouch. This will create a much more secure bond between your pouch and yourMOLLE system.
STEP #4: CONTINUE INTERLOCKING WEBBING and YOUR ACCESSORY
Depending on the size of your MOLLE attachment, you will continue this pattern until you reach the end of the attachment straps. In this example, I am attaching my MOLLE water bottle pouch to my EXO-TEK 24 bug out backpack. This pouch perfectly secures to three rows of MOLLE webbing, providing a sturdy and reliable hold that I can trust when I’m on the go.
STEP #5: SECURE SNAP CLOSURES
The final step to attaching your accessory pouch to your MOLLE backpack is to secure the snaps so that your pouch won’t go anywhere. Once you’ve woven the attachment points all the way through the MOLLE webbing on both the pack and the webbing on the accessory pouch, give your pouch a shake and feel how much less movement and how much more secure the attachment is. When woven properly, the accessories you clip almost feel like they are built right into your MOLLE backpack – except they’re not, which is great because now you can remove them and put them back on as you please without having to deal with any heavy-duty sewing!
