Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday hailed the Allahabad High Court directive, quashing the detention of Dr Kafeel Khan beneath the National Security Act (NSA) and hoped the Uttar Pradesh authorities will instantly launch him “without any malice”.
The Allahabad High Court has ordered the rapid launch of Kafeel Khan, who has been in jail since January after a speech he delivered on the Aligarh Muslim University through the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protests in December.
“The Allahabad High Court today ordered the removal of NSA and immediate release of Dr Kafeel Khan,” Priyanka Gandhi stated in a tweet.
“It is expected that the UP government will release Dr Kafeel Khan without any malice,” she stated.
The Congress chief added that she additionally congratulated all of the “justice loving people” and occasion staff within the state who had been making efforts for Kafeel Khan’s launch.
The Allahabad High Court bench, comprising Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh, handed the order on a petition filed by Kafeel Khan’s mom Nuzhat Parveen.
The petition alleged that Khan was granted bail in February by a reliable courtroom and he was speculated to be launched on bail. However, he was not launched for 4 days and the NSA was subsequently invoked in opposition to him. Hence, his detention was unlawful, the petition argued.
