Huawei Technologies and Apple each elevated their share of the China smartphone market within the second quarter of 2020, bucking a broader development as the general marketplace for handsets continued to contract.
Huawei shipped 40.2 million units in China within the second quarter, Eight p.c greater than a yr earlier, to extend its share of the market to a dominant 44 p.c.

“The local brands are driving 5G penetration within their portfolio to support operator efforts to transition existing 4G users to 5G, which have already surpassed 100 million subscribers in July,” stated Louis Liu, an analyst with Canalys.
“Huawei is aiming to be the go-to 5G brand in China. Its 5G portfolio exceeded 60 percent of its total shipments in Q2.”
Huawei stays mired in a spat with Washington. In May, the US Department of Commerce positioned extra restrictions on American suppliers to the corporate. Analysts say the orders, if implmented, might cripple the corporate’s chip division and its abroad cellphone gross sales.
Android-based manufacturers Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi noticed shipments decline 13 p.c, 19 p.c, and 19 p.c, respectively.
