In one of many strongest assaults by the United States on Beijing’s unlawful territorial claims within the strategic waters of South China Sea, State Secretary Mike Pompeo on Saturday burdened that Washington’s coverage within the area is crystal clear and stated that the disputed territory within the South China Sea (SCS) is “not China’s maritime empire”.
“The United States’ policy is crystal clear: The South China Sea is not China’s maritime empire. If Beijing violates international law and free nations do nothing, history shows the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will simply take more territory. China Sea disputes must be resolved through international law,” Mr Pompeo stated in a tweet.
The South China Sea is grouped into three archipelagos. China claims virtually all the South China Sea as its sovereign territory and it has aggressively asserted its stake in recent times.
This comes weeks after the United States formally dismissed China’s claims to offshore sources throughout a lot of the South China Sea and termed Beijing’s marketing campaign of bullying to regulate them as “completely unlawful.”
Earlier on July 13, Mr Pompeo had issued a press release on the US place on maritime claims within the South China Sea, saying that the Chinese authorities has no authorized grounds to unilaterally impose its will on the area.
Washington introduced that it’s aligning the US place on the Chinese authorities’s claims within the South China Sea with the 2016 Arbitral Tribunal’s choice.
