The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police has arrested an individual for impersonating as an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer and dishonest a Gujarat-based businessman to the tune of Rs 36 crore, the police stated as we speak.
According to the Delhi Police, the accused has been recognized as Piyush Bandopadhyay.
The police stated that the case was registered after receiving a grievance from the consultant of SRM Mahadeo Smart Bio Toilet Pvt Ltd. They alleged that they had been duped of Rs 36 crore by a bunch of people that had been impersonating as authorities officers and claiming to get any proposal of the corporate handed by the federal government.
In its grievance, the corporate stated that they met Shweta Sorout, spouse of Piyush Bandopadhyay, via a standard buddy, who launched herself because the Indian head of Intellectual Innovation Think Tank Company engaged in promoting patent know-how to authorities and non-government companies internationally.
“Shweta claimed that her husband Piyush Bandopadhyay is an IFS officer presently posted in PMO/GOI. She subsequently arranged a meeting of the representatives of SRM Mahadeo Smart Bio Toilet Pvt Ltd with her husband Piyush Bandopadhyay in Ashoka Hotel,” Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW) OP Mishra stated in an announcement.
“In the first introduction, Bandopadhyay impersonated as an IFS officer working in the Government of India/PMO by producing fake a visiting card purportedly carrying his fake designations, degrees, and insignias,” the assertion added.
It stated that the accused had informed the corporate that each one tasks associated to Make-in-India, Smart City, Solar Energy, and many others, had been sorted by him and that he might get any proposal of the corporate handed by the federal government.
“In order to convince the company about his genuine credentials, he also produced forged documents purportedly issued by the Government of India. On the basis of the false representations by Piyush Bandopadhyay and his wife, SRM Mahadeo Smart Bio Toilet Pvt Ltd convinced the Directors of Mitsumi Disributors, an NRI company (based in Dubai) to purchase the patent technology from Intellectual Innovation Think Tank,” the assertion stated.
A complete quantity of Rs 36 crore was then transferred to Intellectual Innovation Think Tank, the police stated.
A case was registered beneath Section 419 (dishonest by impersonation), 420 (dishonest and dishonestly inducing supply of property), 406 (felony breach of belief), 409 (felony breach of belief by public servant), 120-B (felony conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Economic Offences Wing police station and an investigation was taken up.
The police stated that the accused has been altering his residence very often on lease and even to his homeowners, he launched himself as an IFS officer.
“It is reliably learnt that two more complaints have also been filed before Central Investigating Agency regarding his impersonation. On the basis of credible input, Bandopadhyay was arrested by the EOW team from his rented accommodation in Noida,” the assertion stated.
The police have additionally seized papers of property from the possession of the accused procured via the cheated quantity.
