Beginning next year, McDonald’s will cease issuing a roughly $300 per 30 days contribution to every of its 14,000 US eating places known as the “Happy Meal Rent and Service Fee,” in accordance with an inner message from its US management obtained by CNN Business.
The chain advised franchisees the subsidy is “no longer fueling growth in the way it once was” and that franchisees could choose to extend the value of a Happy Meal by 20 cents next year to offset. McDonald’s does not set the costs of its menu objects, bur quite lets franchisees determine relying on location.
The National Owners Association, a bunch of McDonald’s franchisees, stated in a staff message that it “does not support, nor did we endorse” the elimination of the Happy Meal subsidy.
“We believe the Happy Meal rebates represent a token of partnership and acknowledgment by the company that each owner [and] operator invests to drive affordable family business to our restaurants,” it stated within the letter.
Correction: An earlier model of this story incorrectly acknowledged the size of the Happy Meal subsidy. It had been in impact for 20 years.
