Poland will cull over 900,000 hens in a farm in western Poland as a result of a fowl flu outbreak which was found on Tuesday night, state information company PAP quoted native veterinary authorities as saying.
The H5N8 fowl flu outbreak within the village of Wroniawy is the 33rd one in Poland this 12 months, mentioned PAP citing the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate knowledge.
“It is a farm of 930,000 laying hens. … A canal runs behind the farm, there are also fields nearby, with geese and other wild birds,” PAP quoted native veterinary authorities as saying. It added that the cull will begin on Thursday and will proceed for as much as six days.
Poland’s Chief Veterinary Inspectorate and native veterinary providers weren’t instantly obtainable to remark.
Risk to people from the illness is taken into account low, however previous outbreaks amongst farm birds have required intensive slaughtering programmes to include them.
