Azerbaijan admitted on Monday it had shot down a Russian navy helicopter on its border with Armenia and apologised.
Two crew members have been killed and a 3rd was injured when the helicopter was shot down in Armenia close to the border with Azerbaijan on Monday, the defence ministry in Moscow stated.
“The Azerbaijani side offers an apology to the Russian side in connection with this tragic incident,” the international ministry stated in a press release, including the transfer was an accident and “not aimed against” Moscow.
The international ministry stated the helicopter flew at a low altitude throughout midnights and near the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Helicopters of the Russian air force had not been previously sighted in the area,” the assertion added.
Baku stated Azerbaijani forces determined to open hearth attributable to heightened tensions amid combating with Armenian separatists.
It supplied its condolences to the households of these killed and stated it was able to pay compensation.
The incident got here throughout a spike in combating between Azerbaijan and Armenian separatists over the disputed area of Nagorno-Karabakh.
