By the early 1970s Indian tigers had been hunted and poached to the sting of extinction – simply 1800 had been left, down from an estimated 40,000 within the 1930s.
The Prime Minister on the time, Indira Gandhi, banned looking and arrange 15 reserves throughout the nation to attempt to re-establish the tiger in its pure habitat.
