Shots Heard As Bus Passengers Taken Hostage In Western Ukraine: Police

KYIV:

A person who mentioned he was armed with weapons and explosives seized management of a bus within the western Ukrainian metropolis of Lutsk on Tuesday and took about 20 individuals on board hostage, police mentioned.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy mentioned on Facebook that “shots were heard, the bus was damaged”.

The man’s calls for had been unknown, police mentioned in an announcement.

TV footage confirmed empty streets cordoned off by individuals in army uniform, police vehicles and an armoured personnel provider.

“Every effort is being made to resolve the situation without casualties. I keep the course of events under personal control,” Zelenskiy mentioned.

Photos revealed on social media confirmed a small bus parked in the midst of an empty avenue. Two home windows of the bus had been smashed and different home windows had been coated with curtains.

Police mentioned that they had blocked off the town centre.
