MOSCOW—The current detention of journalists and critics of Russian President Vladimir Putin is stirring issues that authorities are launching a brand new wave of assaults on opposition figures.
Since Mr. Putin gained a July 1 referendum that might extend his energy for years to come back, journalists have been detained, the houses of Kremlin critics raided and a preferred regional governor has been arrested on suspicion of organizing contract killings allegedly dedicated nearly 20 years in the past.
