Colombo:
Sri Lanka’s navy stated on Tuesday greater than 100 whales had been rescued after turning into stranded on a seashore on the island’s southwest coast.
Villagers defied a novel coronavirus curfew to assist rescue the small whales on Monday, wading into the breaking surf to push them again into the ocean at Panadura, south of the capital, Colombo.
“We pushed back all of them last night, about 100 to 120 whales,” navy spokesman Captain Indika de Silva informed Reuters.
Four of the whales died in the course of the rescue operation, he stated.
“I was fishing when I saw a dark patch and about 100 came ashore,” fisherman Upul Ranjith stated earlier.
“I don’t know why this has happened. It’s never happened before. This is the first time I’ve seen it,” Ranjith stated.
The phenomenon of whales getting stranded in shallow water stays largely a thriller to scientists.
In September, a number of hundred whales died in shallows off the coast of Australia in its greatest stranding on file and one of many largest on this planet.
