In fact, many class 12 students that TOI spoke with said they have decided to opt for the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) assessment instead of appearing for pending subjects as they need their transcripts to complete the admission process.
“The main reason why I have decided to go ahead with my plan to do my graduation in the US is because of the kind of opportunities that are available there-internships, assistantship, among others,” said Eshita Kalidindi, who secured an admission in BA in Psychology at the University of San Francisco.
Eshita said the varsity has offered various options for international students to start their course in fall. “In the first semester, we can either opt for an online model or a hybrid model. In the online model, the entire semester can be completed online, whereas one gets to do a part of course online and other on the campus in the hybrid model,” she added.
Another student Chinmaya B, who reserved an MBBS seat in two Caribbean universities- American University of Antigua (AUA) and St George’s University, said that she decided to go ahead with her plans as she always wanted to do medicine from an international university. “The classes are going to start in August and there is an option to start the course online,” said Chinmaya adding that she is going to shortlist one of the two colleges and join so that she can start attending classes starting from August.
Masters’ aspirants, who have cancelled their abroad plans, said that they cannot take the risk as they are going to complete the course in the next two years. “Undergraduate students have an option as it would take about four to five years for completing the course. The situation will definitely improve by then. We don’t have that option as we need to start looking for internships and jobs immediately,” said Sai Kiran, who shelved his plan due to Covid-19.
Quite a few students are said to be opting to join the course in the spring semester over fall hoping that the situation will be in control by December or January. Some are also planning to take a gap year and join the course next year.
