The United States on Wednesday introduced sanctions and restrictions on two dozen Chinese corporations and related officers for collaborating in constructing synthetic islands in disputed waters within the South China Sea.
The 24 state-owned companies embody subsidiaries of development large China Communications Construction Co., telecommunications companies and a unit of the China Shipbuilding Group.
The transfer was the most recent step in Washington’s efforts to stress Beijing over its navy buildup in areas of the South China Sea the place sovereignty is contested by a number of international locations.
The US Commerce Department mentioned the businesses “enabled China to construct and militarize disputed outposts in the South China Sea.”

The 24 corporations have been positioned on the Commerce Department’s “Entity List” which permits it to dam exports of US items and supplies to them.
In addition, Pompeo mentioned people related to the South China Sea operations will likely be unable to acquire visas to go to the United States.
