The US authorities on Sunday confirmed that its laptop networks had been hit by a cyberattack, as The Washington Post reported not less than two departments together with the Treasury had been focused by Russian state hackers.
“We have been working closely with our agency partners regarding recently discovered activity on government networks,” a spokesperson for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency instructed AFP.
“CISA is providing technical assistance to affected entities as they work to identify and mitigate any potential compromises.”
The Post stated the hacks had been linked to an assault final week on cybersecurity agency FireEye, which stated its personal defenses had been breached by refined attackers who stole instruments used to check clients’ laptop methods.
FireEye stated it suspected the assault was state-sponsored.
US media reviews stated the FBI was investigating a gaggle working for the Russian overseas intelligence service, SVR, and that breaches had been going down for months.
The similar group additionally reportedly hacked US authorities companies throughout the Obama administration.
“The United States government is aware of these reports and we are taking all necessary steps to identify and remedy any possible issues related to this situation,” National Security Council spokesman John Ullyot stated.
