A 16-year-old lady was allegedly set on fireplace on the terrace of her residence in a village in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh early on Sunday morning.
The lady has been admitted to a hospital in Varanasi with 60 per cent burn accidents and her situation is claimed to be vital, mentioned police.
Police have arrested the lady’s 22-year-old neighbour on the premise of a criticism lodged by her household.
The lady’s household has alleged that the accused climbed on the terrace of their home, poured kerosene oil on her when
she was asleep after which set her on fireplace. The household has alleged that lady had been dealing with harassment by the accused, police mentioned.
The Circle Officer mentioned that in keeping with the lady’s father, all the household was sleeping on the terrace of the home on Saturday night time. Around three am, the lady’s father awoke on listening to his daughter scream and noticed her engulfed in flames, mentioned the Circle Officer.
The lady’s father has advised police that he noticed the accused fleeing to the adjoining home, the officer added.
The father has advised police that in an try to douse the flames, he had suffered burn accidents in his left hand.
The lady’s father has advised the police that on Saturday afternoon, the accused harassed the lady and threatened to destroy her life when she was returning residence from market, the Circle Officer mentioned.
The officer added that the lady’s household has alleged that accused harassed her every time she stepped out of the home.
Police, nevertheless, mentioned that they’d not acquired any criticism from the lady’s household in regards to the harassment earlier.
“The accused, who worked as a labourer in Delhi and had returned to the village after the lockdown, has been booked on attempt to murder charge and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. We are trying to collect information about the accused and the investigation is on,” mentioned the Circle Officer.
