A 32-year-old tribal lady and her boyfriend have been allegedly captured, saved in confinement for a day, after which she was gang-raped in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, police mentioned on Monday.
Later, a kangaroo courtroom requested the lady and her boyfriend, who’s a non-tribal, to pay a “fine” of Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively, she alleged.
Police mentioned they’ve arrested 5 individuals in reference to the incident.
The lady, a widow with three youngsters, was returning dwelling within the Mohammadbazar space on her boyfriend’s bike on the night of August 18 after they have been stopped by a couple of males, she alleged within the police criticism that was filed on Saturday.
They have been saved confined in a room that evening and subsequent day she was taken to a close-by forest space and allegedly gang-raped by 5 males, police mentioned.
“All the five accused have been arrested,” Subimal Paul, extra superintendent of police of Birbhum district, mentioned.
They have been then fined by the kangaroo courtroom that was held within the lady’s village, as per the police criticism.
“Investigation has also been initiated into the alleged kangaroo court,” the officer mentioned.
The native media reported that she was allegedly raped and fined as she was courting a non-tribal however there was no official affirmation on this.
Police mentioned they’re investigating the matter and a case has been registered.
All the 5 accused have been accused of gang rape, wrongful confinement and legal intimidation within the FIR registered by police.
