Kolkata: Ninety-six films from throughout the world had been screened on-line on the three-day Calcutta International Short Film Festival 2020 (CISFF 2020) which concluded on Sunday, organisers mentioned. Of the 96 movies, 21 are from India and 9 are from West Bengal.
Kamaleshwar Mukherjee’s ‘The Hunger Artist’, which has gained a number of worldwide awards, was the opening movie of CISFF 2020. “Short filmmakers don’t seem to get much support or recognition in India as much as they do globally. More than 70 per cent of international festivals dedicate a section to short films but the number is negligible when it comes to Indian festivals,” Festival Director Shubhankar Mazumdar mentioned on Sunday.
It is essential to create an ecosystem which gives quick filmmakers with economical help and encouragement, he mentioned. Mazumdar mentioned that CISFF goals at giving younger and unbiased filmmakers a platform for showcasing their expertise, in addition to attempting to create a monetary and technical help system for them.
