So far, Nunam has made 25 electrical energy storage models that every have as much as 1 kilowatt hour of capability
The Audi environmental basis is supporting Nunam, an Indo-German NGO that helps small scale Indian retailers with electrical energy derived from discarded batteries. Nunam makes stationary vitality storage methods which might be made out of discarded batteries from shopper electronics like previous laptops.
“Even a 5-year old laptop can serve as a light source, power a small fan or charge a mobile phone,” says Pradip Chatterjee, the co-founding father of Nunam. Nunam assessments the situation of the battery cell which is usually bought from electrical scrap and the cells which show to have greater than 60 per cent capability are assembled into new energy banks. At the second, Nunam’s work is within the prototype part.
Right now, as part of this effort from Audi‘s environmental basis, Nunam is receiving funding for the pilot part. Nunam is to develop new energy banks to manufacturing levels. So far, 5,000 battery cells have been collected from over 1000 laptops and extra 25 storage methods have been developed by Nunam. These energy storage methods are being distributed to rural areas for the pilot trial. These storage methods are stated to have a 1-kilowatt capability.

“Technology is most environmentally friendly when it remains in use as long as possible. If we can do it for other purposes after their initial use, we can save energy and raw materials and reduce the amount of electronic waste. Effective cycles are an important lever for conserving resources,” stated Rudiger Recknagel, Managing Director of the Audi Environmental Foundation.
“We are creating win-win situations: Old battery cells that would otherwise end up in residual waste are first reused and then disposed of properly,” provides Chatterjee stating that hundreds of thousands of individuals in India may benefit from this effort as they do not have entry to dependable electrical energy.

Once the pilot undertaking is over, Nunam plans on beginning small scale manufacturing. They additionally plan on sharing the info and findings with others within the hope to make extra different energy sources. It has even tapped TU Berlin and the division {of electrical} vitality storage know-how to develop a mannequin the place it might predict the damage and tear of used batteries.
