With coronavirus circumstances set to rise, the West Bengal authorities is making ready to check a minimum of one lakh COVID-19 samples every day and has ordered superior testing gear from a Switzerland-based pharmaceutical firm, an official stated on Saturday.
The system, which might conduct novel coronavirus checks on the Cobas 6800/8800 system, was ordered in May and is predicted to reach by mid August.
The authorities of India has acquired 4-5 of them. One of these has been despatched to National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, which is the ICMR physique situated in Kolkata.
Each of those machines can check 4,000 samples a day. With the Bengal acquisition, it would imply a further 8,000 checks a day. At the second, Bengal is conducting 10,000 checks a day in over 50 labs throughout the state.

“The cost of of conducting 10,000 tests is Rs 2-2.5 crore. Once this system is in place, it will cut down on the expenditure,” he stated.
“We have some technicians in the Health Department and a few at the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) who have knowledge about the Cobas system. Some are being trained at the Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine,” the official added.
The Cobas SARS-CoV-2 is a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain response (RT-PCR) machine meant for qualitative check on the Cobas 6800/8800 system to detect the an infection from nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab samples, and it’s accepted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
