The West Bengal forest division is bringing six tigers to Buxa Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar district, as a part of its effort to reinforce the inhabitants of massive cats within the nationwide park, an official has stated.
The six massive cats are being introduced from Kaziranga National Park in Assam, Chief Wildlife Warden Ravikant Sinha stated.
“Arrangements have been made to ensure safe and smooth transit of the animals,” he added.
Mr Sinha stated the federal government needed to extend the inhabitants of Royal Bengal tigers in BTR, the biggest forest in North Bengal with an space of 745 sq-km.
“Recently, two Royal Bengal tigers have been spotted in Buxa through our camera traps. These two big cats were seen from various locations of the core area of the forest. So, at least two tigers are there already and we need to raise the number,” he stated.
The six tigers are being relocated from Kaziranga to Buxa as these two reserve forests have comparable habitats, the official added.
The BTR, which is unfold over the plains and foothills, has about 390 sq-km of core space and is dwelling of 73 mammal species together with leopard, chital deer and wild boar.
The forest division had not too long ago launched a brief movie in regards to the BTR, the official stated. The movie was handed over to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to create a buzz in regards to the reserve forest nationally, he stated.
