Since 1 July 2022, the Joint Gaming Authority of the Länder (GGL) has taken over the first operational tasks. From 2023, further responsibilities are to fall to the GGL. The authority is already responsible for combating illegal online gambling across the Länder. The same applies to advertising. This is accompanied by the entry into force of corresponding enforcement instruments. A look into the GGL’s toolbox: IP and payment blocking
Gambling operators can apply for a license. However, licensing is accompanied by a commitment to German legislation. Those who receive such a license have their name on the so-called safelist. All licensed gambling providers are listed there. Conversely, all providers not on this list are prohibited in Germany.
