A lady constable’s switch for stopping a Gujarat MLA’s son and his two pals – who had been driving round in Surat throughout curfew hours on Wednesday – has triggered an enormous controversy, with the episode being seen because the police buckling beneath political strain. A probe has been ordered into the incident.
Prakash Kanani, son of Varachha Road MLA and Minister of State for Health Kumar Kanani, and his pals had an argument with constable Sunita Yadav, who identified that they had been out throughout curfew hours and weren’t carrying masks.
According to report, Ms Yadav had stopped Mr Kanani’s pals for violating the lockdown guidelines. They later referred to as the MLA’s son, who arrived in his father’s automotive on the spot. An alleged audio goes viral on social media by which he allegedly threatens her that he’ll “make you stand at the same place for 365 days”.
The undeterred constable then replied that she was not their slave, information company PTI reported.
She was later transferred to the police headquarters.
On Sunday, Prakash Kanani and two of his pals had been arrested. They had been later launched on bail.
Surat Commissioner of Police RB Brahmbhatt on Saturday ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Ms Yadav has gone on a sick go away after the incident. She has not made any comment as of now.
