India, Australia and France on Wednesday held talks for the primary time below a trilateral framework with deal with enhancing cooperation within the Indo-Pacific, a area that has been witnessing growing Chinese navy assertiveness.

“The focus of the dialogue was on enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region,” the External Affairs Ministry stated in an announcement.
It stated the “outcome-oriented” assembly was held with the target of constructing on the sturdy bilateral ties that the three nations share with one another and synergise their respective strengths to make sure a peaceable, safe, affluent and rules-based Indo-Pacific Region.
The MEA stated the three sides agreed to carry the dialogue on an annual foundation.
It stated the three sides mentioned financial and geo-strategic challenges and cooperation within the Indo-Pacific, significantly within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and home responses to the disaster.
“The three countries also had an exchange on the priorities, challenges and trends in regional and global multilateral institutions, including the best ways to strengthen and reform multilateralism,” the MEA stated.
