The Dakshina Kannada police have cracked the kidnapping case of a eight-year previous boy whose abductors sought ransom in bitcoins, the police stated.
The boy was traced in Kurnahosahalli hamlet in Maluru of Kolar district, which is 54 kms from tech hub Bengaluru and he was reunited along with his household in Belthangady, stated the police.
The case gained lot of public consideration as a result of abductors demanding ransom in bitcoins, a type of digital cryptocurrency.
The police stated that at round 5 am on Saturday morning, after guaranteeing that the abductors and inmates in the home had been quick asleep, the joint police crew of Kolar and Dakshin Kannada districts raided the home and rescued the boy from the clutches of his kidnappers.
The kidnappers had demanded ransom of 100 bitcoins, valued round Rs 17 crore initially and later the gang stored revising their demand downward from Rs 17 crore to Rs 10 Crore and eventually “agreed” for Rs 25 lakhs.
The police have arrested six individuals in reference to this case, two from Bengaluru and 4 from Maluru, who had been with the boy. All six are extremely tech-savvy, the police added.
