Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday dominated out the opportunity of out-of-court settlement on the Mahadayi river water diversion problem, whereby the state has crossed swords with Karnataka. Inter State Water Dispute Tribunal has given its award distributing the water of Mahadayi river, which has been challenged via Special Leave Petition (SLP) earlier than Supreme Court by Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Goa has additionally filed a contempt petition in opposition to Karnataka after the latter diverted the river water regardless of the SLP pending with the SC. “We are not ready for any kind of out-of-court settlement on Mahadayi river dispute. Our petitions are pending before the Supreme Court. We will fight it out there,” Sawant informed reporters.
He was responding to a question about his reported assembly with an emissary despatched by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to debate the inter-state water dispute. “Our demand is that Karnataka, which has diverted our water, should immediately release it. I am fully aware that the water flow in Mahadayi has decreased,” he stated.
Sawant stated that in his dialogue with BJP’s Goa state in-charge C T Ravi, he informed him that Karnataka has diverted Mahadayi river water. Ravi was on go to to Goa earlier this week after taking up occasion’s duty within the coastal state.
