Journalist Priya Ramani informed a Delhi courtroom at this time that she “pleaded truth” as her defence in a prison defamation grievance filed towards her by former Union minister MJ Akbar.
She informed the courtroom that her disclosure about alleged sexual misconduct by MJ Akbar round 20 years in the past when he was a journalist was made in good religion and for public good.
MJ Akbar had filed the grievance towards Ms Ramani for allegedly defaming him by accusing him of sexual misconduct.
Priya Ramani had mentioned the allegations towards MJ Akbar, made within the wake of #MeToo motion in 2018, have been her fact.
She made the submission earlier than Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Ravindra Kumar Pandey by Senior Advocate Rebecca John.
“I have pleaded truth as my defense, that my disclosure was made in good faith, for public good. The reason I have done so because it touched a question of public importance. The court will have to come to a conclusion that although an imputation was made, no case for defamation is made out. At the very first instance, I specifically pleaded truth as my defense,” Ms John mentioned on behalf of Priya Ramani.
