Former Lok Sabha MP Harinder Singh Khalsa has resigned from the BJP to protest “the insensitivity shown by party leaders and the government towards the sufferings of the farmers, their wives and children protesting against the three agrarian laws”, information company ANI reported on Saturday.
BJP leaders in Punjab have confronted an intense backlash over the three new central authorities legal guidelines that farmers concern will finally dismantle regulated markets and cease the federal government shopping for wheat and rice at assured costs.
Thousands of farmers from a number of states have been camped on the outskirts of New Delhi for over a month, blocking highways to demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s authorities repeal the farm legal guidelines handed in September with little debate.
Assuring farmers that they don’t face any risk, PM Modi has stated that the protests have been politically motivated and that “some people” have been spreading lies and rumours concerning the farmers’ troubles.
Mr Khalsa had gained from Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib within the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as a member of the Aam Aadmi Party however joined the BJP in 2019 following a rift with the Arvind Kejriwal’s occasion’s central management.
