Thousands of farmers underneath the banners of various organisations took out a “tractor march” in Ludhiana on Monday in protest towards three ordinances launched by the Central Government and the gasoline value hike.
Farmers are protesting towards three ordinances– The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020 and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020.
Speaking to ANI, Sarabjit Singh, a farmer stated, “We are protesting against the three ordinances passed by the government. Every farmer is facing losses. The government is helping corporate firms to do business in mandis and we are protesting against that.
“We are compelled to protest towards the ordinance handed by the federal government. The means the centre is discontinuing the Minimum Support Price, farmers will face loses. The Rs 40,000 crore that the Punjab authorities earns via Mandis will cease. Farmers are already committing suicides,” said Gurcharan Singh, another farmer.
Threatening to block roads if these ordinances are enforced, a farmer said, “We are protesting towards the three ordinances compelled on us by the Centre. We will park all our tractors with every having two farmers conserving social distance in thoughts throughout Punjab. If required, we are going to block roads in future. They should additionally cut back the costs of petrol and diesel.”
