Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as we speak inaugurated six bridges in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, and asserted that growth of distant areas within the area will proceed to be a “key priority” for the NDA authorities.
The Defence Minister devoted the bridges by means of video conferencing in presence of Chief of the Army Staff Gen MM Naravane, Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar, Director General of Border Roads Organisation Lt Gen Harpal Singh, amongst others.
Four bridges had been constructed on the Akhnoor-Pallanwala highway in Akhnoor, whereas two bridges had been constructed on the Tarnah Nallah in Kathua district, the Defence Ministry mentioned in a press release.
The complete value of building of the bridges was Rs 43 crore.
The inauguration of the bridges, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) comes at a time when India and China are engaged in a border row in jap Ladakh.
Officials mentioned the dedication of the bridges to the individuals of Jammu and Kashmir carries an even bigger message that India will proceed to develop key infrastructure in border areas however hostilities by any adversary.
“Our government is committed to promoting infrastructure on our borders and necessary resources will be provided for this. Our government has a keen interest in the development of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mr Singh mentioned in his transient tackle.
“Keeping in mind the needs of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Armed Forces, many other development works are also being finalised, which will be announced in due time. About 1,000 kilometre long roads are currently under construction in Jammu region,” he mentioned.
The Defence Minister mentioned the federal government has ensured that adequate sources are supplied to the BRO for the development of strategic roads.
Despite the COVID-19 epidemic, the federal government is not going to let the sources of the BRO fall brief, he added.
According to the ministry, the annual funds of the BRO ranged from Rs 3,300 crores to Rs 4,600 crores throughout 2008 to 2016. However, the allocation was hiked to Rs 8,050 crore in 2019-2020.
The funds for the BRO for 2020-2021 is more likely to be Rs 11,800 crore, the ministry mentioned, including the upper allocation will expedite the development of strategic roads, bridges and tunnels alongside our northern borders.
In his remarks, Singh congratulated the BRO for building of the bridges in “record time”.
He mentioned that roads and bridges are the lifeline of any nation and play a significant position within the socio-economic growth of far-flung areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is repeatedly monitoring the progress of those tasks and satisfactory funds are being supplied for his or her well timed execution, he added.
