New Delhi:
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has written to the Meghalaya Chief Secretary over the dying of 877 newborns and 61 pregnant girls within the state within the final 4 months.
Since April, not less than 61 pregnant girls and 877 new child infants have died in Meghalaya after being denied admission in hospitals and due to lack of medical consideration on account of diversion of the well being equipment to combat the coronavirus pandemic, a senior well being division official mentioned.
The deaths of the newborns had been on account of lack of medical consideration and care, pneumonia and delivery asphyxia, Director of Health Services Aman War mentioned.
NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma, within the letter to Meghalaya Chief Secretary MS Rao, mentioned the fatalities had been a matter of great concern.
“It is a matter of serious concern and the Commission has taken note of the lapse by the hospital at the time when the government of India is emphasising for implementation of institutional delivery mechanism across the nation,” Ms Sharma mentioned within the letter.
“We are bringing to your notice and it is requested to kindly send a feedback in the matter,” she mentioned.
